When\u00a0a customer views your store\u00a0they will click on a category to view products that have been assigned to that category. You can also create subcategories within your category.<\/p>\n<p>Categories are managed from <strong>Store\u00a0\u203a<\/strong> <strong>Categories<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h1><a name=\"adding\"><\/a>ADDING\u00a0A CATEGORY<\/h1>\n<p>The steps below show you how to add\u00a0categories.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> Click <strong>Insert<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Enter the <strong>Name<\/strong> of your category. The other fields are optional.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"noBullet\">\n<li><strong>Name<\/strong> \u2014 the category name as it appears in your store<\/li>\n<li>Fill out the <strong>Search Engine Optimization<\/strong> fields if desired. (Meta tag description, Meta tag keywords)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Description<\/strong> \u2014 a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/WYSIWYG\" target=\"_blank\">WYSIWYG<\/a> content editor will appear\u00a0above the description box<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong>\u00a0Click the <strong>Data<\/strong> tab<\/p>\n<ul class=\"noBullet\">\n<li>If this will be a <strong>subcategory<\/strong> select a parent category by starting to type the parent category name in the box. The parent category will pop up and you can select it.<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;ve set <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.createashoppeplus.com\/advanced-manual\/#document-4\">filters<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0enter them<\/li>\n<li>If you have <strong>multiple stores<\/strong> choose which stores you&#8217;d like the new category added to. Otherwise leave on default.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Image:<\/strong> If you&#8217;d like a photo, or a banner or other image to appear above the product listings in this category.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Columns: <\/strong>You can set columns in the navigation drop down menu. Most prefer this as is.<\/li>\n<li>Enter a number for <strong>sort order<\/strong> if you want this category to be before or after another category<\/li>\n<li>Set <strong>status<\/strong> to Enabled.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong>\u00a0The <strong>design<\/strong> tab is usually not used but it allows\u00a0different layout in terms of assignment of modules, not in terms of a totally different page design. For example, your standard product page might use the layout &#8220;products&#8221; and you have a specials module set to appear in the left column of the products layout so it shows on all product pages.<\/p>\n<p>But let&#8217;s say\u00a0you do not want that specials module to show on products you have on sale. You could create a layout called &#8220;onsale&#8221; that you apply as a layout override to only those products you assign a &#8220;specials&#8221; price to. Since the specials module is NOT assigned to show on the onsale layout, it would NOT show on those products.<\/p>\n<p>This will work for any modules. You could use the banner module for example to show a banner for free shipping on only those products you give free shipping for. A page content type module to show a link to a different website &#8220;For tons more x type products, visit our x store&#8221;. On the example on sales layout, you could assign onsale to show a box for terms and conditions of that sale &#8220;Free shipping does not apply. Not valid with other offers or coupons&#8221; or whatever.<br \/>\nIt gives you more flexibility as to what you display where.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.\u00a0<\/strong>Click<strong> <strong>Save\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong>when done.<br \/>\n<a name=\"editing\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h1>EDITING A\u00a0CATEGORY<\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2710\" src=\"http:\/\/www.createashoppeplus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Screen-Shot-2014-10-22-at-6.38.16-PM1.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2014-10-22 at 6.38.16 PM\" width=\"1341\" height=\"165\" \/><br \/>\nTo edit an existing category, click\u00a0<strong>Store\u00a0&gt;Categories<\/strong> and then click edit for the category \u00a0you&#8217;d like to make changes to.<\/p>\n<p>To <strong>change the order<\/strong> of your categories, click your mouse on\u00a0the category row, then drag the category up or down.<\/p>\n<p>To <strong>Disable or hide a category<\/strong> without deleting it, click the <strong>data<\/strong> while editing\u00a0the category.\u00a0Scroll to the bottom and set the status to <strong>Disabled<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h1>DELETING A CATEGORY<\/h1>\n<p>To delete categories click <strong>Store &gt;Categories<\/strong>:<br \/>\n1. Select the categories you wanted to delete, by clicking on the little boxes next to the categories.<br \/>\n2. Click the Delete button<\/p>\n<p>A pop up will appear asking you to confirm it&#8217;s ok to perform the deletion.<br \/>\nUpon successful deletion, a highlighted status will be display beneath the categories bar<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>SUBCATEGORIES<\/h1>\n<p>To create subcategories follow the steps above for adding a category but under the data tab\u00a0select a parent category by starting to type the parent category name in the <strong>Parent<\/strong> box. The parent category will pop up and you can select it.
